Freeloader Radio is now officially retired!

Wow, I still can't believe that the radio show I've invested so much of my free time for the last few years (well, "school years") is now finished. Brings a tear to my eyes :(

Before I move on to the albums from yesterday's show, I just wanted to use this time to say thank you to everyone who has tuned-in to the show over the years (whether it be for several episodes, or just one), the staff at WSUW (who not only taught me how to improve as an on-air talent over the years, but also were cool people to hang out with and assist in promoting WSUW), and finally all the bands and artists for putting out great music for free (if it wasn't for them, the idea for this show would never have existed in the first place)!

First off, I need to apologize again for the postponing of the "rap/hip-hop" edition of Freeloader Radio. Technology screwed me over once again, by not saving some of the edits I had made to the music (which would have been REALLY bad, had I not caught that before the songs went over the air). But rest assured, we will have it on next week's show (which works out since one of the albums has a "drinking" theme for the most part, and it being the week of St. Patty's Day and all...).

That's correct, Freeloader Radio will be returning in the upcoming weeks for its final semester on WSUW! While I currently have zero idea when exactly our first day broadcasting will be, I can inform you all that we be airing live Mondays from about 4pm-6pm.

So I decided to try something new for tomorrow's show. Instead of trying to sticking to similar genres for an entire show, I've opted to pick out a bunch of albums at random from the "Unplayed" folder on my laptop (which contains music that I want to play on the show). As of now, the folder has about 29 albums in it; but the interesting thing is that it's of varying genres!!!

So tomorrow's show could feature a mixture of pop, hip-hop, metal, progressive, and even acoustic!!! Kinda banking on a "speed metal + folk rock" show tomorrow, but I won't know until I draw the albums tonight! And you all won't know until the show tomorrow!!!

EDIT: Drew the albums at random. I am happy to report that the results were nothing too out there. Got a mellow folk-rock album, some alternative rock, and also some progressive metal! While not the weird combo of albums I was hoping for, it's still some great tunes!

Also, bank on a rap/hip-hop show for next week's show!!! Black El (formerly Black Element) has a new release out, and I really would like to play it!!!! :)

Hey everyone! It's been awhile, but all I've got to say is that we be returning to WSUW this fall on Tuesdays from 6pm to 8pm (barring any last-minute changes). I don't know for certain when exactly the first show will be, but I'll definitely post it here and at our Twitter page when that specific information becomes available.

Also, I'm not 100% sure if this will be the final semester of the show on WSUW, or if I'll extend in for the full year (which will be my final year attending UW-Whitewater). I hate to do this, but I gotta push the rap/hip-hop edition of Freeloader Radio back one more week. The reason for this was due to Audacity not saving most of the edits that I had made to one of the albums (thank God I discovered this before it was broadcasted later tonight in all its uncut glory). Since I have no time during the afternoon to go back and quickly re-edit everything, I figured I'd simply switch this week's albums with next week's albums.

Anyways, as the title of this blog post suggests, the audio player that I've been planning on adding to this blog for awhile now is FINALLY on the verge of becoming a reality! While it isn't exactly exactly what I was going for , hopefully it'll be good enough! What you do is go to the link below:

Then, you double-click on an album's folder. Once you do that, it'll open up that album's folder, revealing all of its tracks. From there, you can double-click on any audio file, which will open up an audio player for your listening pleasure (which will not only play that selected song, but will also contain the playlist for that entire album as well)!

Like I said, it isn't exactly what I was hoping for, but this particular setup actually proves to be a bit more convenient! As of now, some of the albums from the show have been uploaded, but you can expect the remainder of them (as well as the individual tracks that were played during the show's old format) to be uploaded very soon!

As you can tell by the title of this blog entry, this is possibly the last episode of Freeloader Radio for the semester! The reason I say possibly, is because it is optional to have a specialty show (which is what kind of show mine is) next week during finals week.

Depending on where I'm at with papers and studying, I might be able to get one final show in next Tuesday.

Music Player FINALLY Coming to Our Blog!!!!

I've finally decided to put up a music player here at the blog containing tunes from past shows! The service that I've chosen is Humyo (although I've been also toying with Tunesbag, but that seems to only allow other members to listen your music), and I have already begun uploading tracks.

Just a quick note that since I only have 5GB of space in my account which can be used for music (Humyo, to my knowledge, restricts free accounts to 10GB of space, with half of it only allowed for media files), I had to re-encode the audio files at somewhere between 96kbs and 120kbs using LameXP (a GREAT batch audio encoder from one of my favorite software developers). But since the files are only being streamed, while the higher-quality files are linked to at this blog, I figured that it wouldn't bother anyone!

Expect to see the player on this blog sometime this week!

While tinkering with this site, I discovered that WSUW was listed (although it's listed as a jazz station... :p ). New "Freeloader Radio" Promo To Air Soon!

For those who regularly listen to 91.7FM "The Edge" (regardless of whether you listen online or on the radio), be sure to keep an eye out (or rather, an "ear open") for the first ever promo for our show.

All the editing was done by yours truly using the great freeware audio editor Audacity. Minus a slight mistake in the music bed later in the promo, I think it turned out alright!

The Return Of Freeloader Radio!!!!

After a long and freezing-cold winter break, Freeloader Radio will be having its first show of the semester Tuesday January 27th!

The format will remain the same as last semester (two or more albums played in their entirety, only to be posted on this blog following the show), but the show will now be every Tuesday from 1pm-3pm.

This slight change in time was needed in order to accommodate my class schedule, so I'm thankful it worked out with only a slight change in time!

Also, I got a few promotional items (CDs, shirts, etc...) from bands who I've showcased on past shows; so be on the lookout for the occasional contest for these items....
